Dominican singer-songwriter, Carolina Camacho seizes the term globalization into a musical context by combining Afro Caribbean sounds with an alternative and electronic feel.

“Atabey”, her first album, takes its name after an aborigine female deity that embodied the origin of life, this was certainly not a coincidence considering that the artist uses her music to promote the empowerment of women. Camacho’s music and lyrics unearth organic rhythms that capture the folklore of a multiethnic country like the Dominican Republic.

Her singles “Ninfa de las Aguas” and “Embeleso” furthermore display her vocal jazz influences as well as her openness to technology with the introduction of loop machines in her performances.

If you´re wondering what you can expect from a Carolina Camacho performance, you should be prepared to let go of your inhibitions and be seduced by the dance moves and rhythms, like gaga and palo, that are masterfully employed by this songstress in her effort to give a new meaning to the Afro Caribbean genre.

“Atabey” was named the No. 1 local album of the Dominican Republic by the alternative music blog La Casetera, the album was also considered as one of discoveries of the NPR Treasure Hunt from the Latin Alternative Music Conference and her work has been reviewed by renowned Latin-American websites like Club Fonograma and Remezcla that describe her in the following words:

“We can say an artist is ahead of the curve when maintaining the organic folklore of her roots by integrating it into new cultural and artistic trends”. – Club Fonograma.

“Carolina Camacho channels the force, the spirituality, the ethereal, and the uncommon beauty of a magical sea creature through the power of dance. She embraces Caribbean-rooted sounds like no one else these days”. – Remezcla.
