The New Year will see Surrey, England-based rock outfit Brightlight City, release their brand new forthcoming EP, ‘OPPORTUNITIESARENOWHERE’.

The new release is the most complete and dynamic set of songs the group has written to date. The conspicuously titled EP (not quite a double entrendre - the true title can be interpreted based on how one chooses to look at it) solidifies the bands approach to constructing anthemic, rock orientated songs. As Jamie Giarraputo (vocalist and lyricist) states, “We feel we have created something that is reflective of our collective musical tastes and delves into subject matters that we haven’t covered before”.

The follow-up to their early 2015 EP, Adventures, Brightlight City (whose lineup is completed by drummer Ben Bell, bassist Tom Stock and guitarists Justin Giarraputo and Jono Staunton) revisited Stakeout Studios in Hampton, London, UK. Once again working with Jason Wilson (known for his work with You Me At Six, Fightstar, We Are The Ocean, Reuben), Brightlight City spent their time diligently recording their efforts and broadening their sound with a much greater emphasis on the grandeur.

Opening with a delicate but melodic progression, it takes little to no time for each of the individual tracks to announce their arrival through guitar heavy riffs, interlocking rhythmic patterns and ethereal guitar lines. Jamie discusses the context of the EP stating, “Lyrically, it is a mix of real life and story based ramblings. I felt it important and necessary that the lyrics are crafted from a societal sensibility where things are not always as they seem. Vocally, there is a mixture of heavier, more aggressive approaches but also keeping the melodic and harmony laden sections which we love to do. Energy was key for me in the vocal approach”.

Nearly two years on from their inception with current members, Brightlight City have experienced a whirlwind ride, these include playing the final of the ‘Relentless: Here To Be Heard’ competition, releasing three singles and two well received EPs. That, coupled with a strong and ever-growing online and social media presence has opened Brightlight City up to a greater audience.

At the beginning of September 2015, Brightlight City will embark on their biggest tour to date, playing throughout September, October and November (with further dates to be added). The band hope to take in as many towns and cities as possible, showcasing their music as well as their love for openly interactive, high intensity live shows. A particular highlight of these set of dates, will be the opportunity to take their music across the large pond that is the Atlantic Ocean to Canada to perform at the ‘Envol et Macadam’ festival in Quebec City and sharing the stage with bands such as Rise Against and Millencolin.

The next few months are set to be an exciting and eventful time for Brightlight City who embrace such experiences, the band state, “Wasted time only affects those who choose to waste it, life does not wait around to vacillate, if you have something you want people to take notice of, then it is down to you, the individual or the collective to make people see it”.
