Combining raw, abrasive guitars, layered drones and hypnotic beats, Bonfire Nights emit a fierce wall of noise on stage, but also reveal an underlying penchant for melodic hooks and intricate boy-girl harmonies.

Formed in Australia by Steve Foster and Ruth Nitkiewicz, the pair packed their bags in 2011 and trekked to London for the promise of the big city lights. They hit the ground running, taking their brand of psych-drone-acid rock on the road for their first UK tour, then heading to the US the following year for showcase events in New York City and South by Southwest, with a couple blistering college house-parties in between.

Back in the UK, they headed into the studio with Olly Betts of The Duke Spirit to lay down the groundwork for the pulsating neo-psych juggernaut ‘Ego Death’, which was released as a split 7” with Tripwires on Bad Vibrations Records. Sessions from this time also include the brooding and haunted ‘Low’, mixed by Ian Davenport (Band of Skulls, Supergrass) and featured on a limited edition compilation cassette from Fluffer Records.

This was followed by a period of intense gigging, sharing the stage with other like-minded acts such as Pond, The KVB, The Drones and Holydrug Couple. After a period of line-up changes, the band recruited fellow Australian Suzie Creevey on keys, and further consolidated their psychotropic sound with Leon Ferbrache on bass.

Their thunderous debut album ‘Entopica Phenomica’ was released in late 2016 on their own imprint Holy Beatnik Records. Featuring walls of guitar noise, chiming distortion and sweeping synthesizers, the album saw the band build further on the lock-groove rhythms established in earlier singles, while simultaneously exploring darker, more experimental territory.

Following the release, the quartet went on to support the likes of L.A. Witch, The Warlocks and Dead Rabbits before announcing an epic, fourteen-date European tour in March 2017.

“A dense, layered offering, laced with maturity and a sense of aural wonder” – Clash Magazine

“Crunching psychedelia” – Loud And Quiet

Album Reviews - Entopica Phenomica

8/10 - Louder Than War “The album as a whole seems to be tracked as a weird, likeably disjointed odyssey. There’s elements of The Seeds and The Shadows Of Knight in the church-y keyboards and scathing guitar overlays. Quicksilver Messenger Service are often recalled, too. The album has that groove about it that’s part stoner and part classic acid rock. It’s good. It’s very good indeed.”

91/100 - guteshoerenistwichtig “The result is a shoegaze-psych-album, which is surprising in its diversity, which provides us with extravagant Stoner-Rock-passages, but in the immediate moment it invades your heart through silent and intimate moments.”

9/10 - Sonic Abuse “Bonfire Nights have carved out their own niche, but what links them, beyond all else, to their peers of yesteryear is a wilful desire to experiment and to create rather than simply follow in someone else’s footsteps. ‘Entopica Phenomica’ is an exceptional debut from an exceptional band.”

7.7/10 - GIG Soup "This record should not be taken on surface level; it is once you dig deeper and dissect that you will appreciate the clear thought and attention that went into what is a commendable and cohesive debut record."

Echos & Dust “...with memorable hooks and an instrumental tapestry that leaves the listener in stoned out bliss. Recommended for all fans of psychedelic, garage, and stoner rock.”

The Sunday Experience “...these dudes burn with a hollowing alchemy that fuses both desire and a mercurial melodic astuteness to craft emotion fracturing epics that bruise, blister and blossom with sly seduction.”

Higher Plain "Shoegazers unite – we’ve got a new band for you to enjoy and unite over. This is the kind of album you’ll be playing as you have a glorious end to a great night out or are getting ready to go nuts on one instead."
