Growing up playing music together on their 'pint-sized' guitars, early jamming sessions naturally evolved into collaborative songwriting and performance, which remains at the core of the group.
The songwriting reflects the brothers' pared-down acoustic roots and early influences; from Leadbelly to the vocal harmonies of the Everly Brothers. These influences are most evident on their debut EP 'BirdyHop ' (2014) - the culmination of a year of intense writing and initial collaboration. After refining their sound and adapting some of the earlier tunes for more dynamic and fuller live performance, BirdyHop released their second, well-received EP, 'WORK' (2015) and played extensively around London and the South-East; including sharing the bill with one of their all-time heroes, Tim Burgess in April 2016.
2016 into 2017 saw a reduction in personnel but a shift towards more expansive, alternative rock, ambient and experimental sounds; featuring dramatic, searing guitar, atmospheric instrumentation and BirdyHop's trademark, ever-present harmonies. The material produced during this period ranks as some of their strongest to date, including ‘Blossom Tree’, which was heralded by various music bloggers and received airplay on 6 Music.
