Batuque Manouche is a project created by Brazilian guitarist Bina Coquet. It brings an unprecedent fusion between Brazilian rhythms and European Gypsy Jazz. The band has been performing in Brazil at jazz festivals and performing arts centers around the country. They’re considered the pioneers of this kind of rhythm fusion.

The band is formed by:

Bina Coquet (Guitar): Born in Rio de Janeiro but raised in Sao Paulo, Bina Coquet started playing guitar at 10 years old and started getting interested in jazz and bossa nova by the age of 17. In 2004, Bina released the critical acclaimed album “Bina & Ehud - Samba de Gringo” featuring New York based pianist and organist Ehud Asherie. In 2011, Bina created the project “Batuque Manouche”, mixing Brazilian rhythms such as Choro, Samba, Xote e Frevo with a touch of the Django Reinhardt’s “Gypsy Jazz”.

Daniel Grajew (Piano/Accordion): Daniel Grajew is a Brazilian pianist, composer and arranger. He began his musical studies at the age of 11, playing the classic piano. Later on, at the age of 14, he started playing the drums and developing a great interest in classical music, especially for it’s acuity and sophistication, and popular music, such as jazz, blues, latin rhythms and Brazilian music in general, delighted by the lightness and spontaneity of such genres. He has worked with many artists such as Patrícia Marx, JJ Jackson, among others.

Leo Rodrigues (Percussion): Leo Rodrigues is a Brazilian percussionist. Since the beginning of his career, he had great identification with a Brazilian musical genre known as Choro. His passion for music has been growing across the years and nowadays he works with all kinds of musical genres and artistic expressions. He has worked with great Brazilian artists such as Lenine, Beth Carvalho, Elba Ramalho, Moraes Moreira, Elza Soares, among others.
