Banda comprises of musicians with long-term experience in folk music interpretation, as well as other genres. In creating its world music repertoire, the group is particularly inspired by Slovak traditional music, using creative approach to its arrangement.
The band’s music is based on genuine, authentic roots of Slovak folk music with a fine measure of blues, jazz, balkan or latino. Banda have featured in many TV and radio programmes and played many concerts and festivals in Slovakia and Europe (e. g. World music festival in Rudolfstadt/ Germany, Slavfest in London/ Great Britain, series concerts given in Brendola, Viggiano and Magliano/ Italy).
The first album BandaJedna reached No. 8 in the WMCE. In 2014 the band released the CD HraBanda, which reached the Top Twenty of the WMCE two times and No. 4 in the Global Village Top 40 Albums for February 2015 (Global Village, a nationally-distributed world music show of KMUW). The song Nadeja reached 5th place in the World Music Chart by Ethnocloud in February 2015.
Banda offers fine arrangements of folk melodies enriched with various instrument combinations. The band uses acoustic instruments: cimbalom, viola, violin, contrabass, helicon accordion, mandolin, bouzouki, drum set and various percussion instruments. They implement rich vocals respecting traditions and local peculiarities, but also in brand new, original form. Their lively production is interpretationally impressive, dynamic and often accompanied by a female choir or dancers. A special bonus is the exciting voice of Eva Brunovska as a solo or in harmony with other vocals. This sextet turns the Slovak folk heritage into a modern, exciting piece of music.
