Like a giant rock beast roaming the earth, Montreal quintet Atsuko Chiba crosses with impunity the borders among prog-, kraut-, psych-, funk-, and post-rock with a dynamic, hypnotic cohesion.

Their eclectic, immersive, cosmically intense pieces are like vast, vertiginous mountain kingdoms, rife with surprising and unexpected features.

The band continues to write music that prominently features heavy effect processing and ambient electronics, within a melodic and rhythmic framework. Atsuko Chiba destabilizes genre categorizations and conventional compositional techniques to create music that is best characterized by its nonlinear, composite, and dynamic style. The band’s live performances uniquely combine their sound-based creative practices and live-triggered projections to create immersive sensorial environments.

Not shy of touring, 2017-2018 has seen Atsuko Chiba take on many tours spanning Canada, the U.S. as well as Europe promoting their latest EP The Memory Empire. Over the years, they have shared the stage with Indian Handcrafts, Caspian, Duchess Says, Tricot, 65daysofstatic, If These Trees Could Talk, The Alarmist, Arms and Sleepers and Little Tybee, among others. They also have taken part in a multitude of festivals, namely: Festival d’été de Québec, Pop Montreal, M for Montreal, Lawnya Vawnya, Festival de Musique Émergente d’Abitibi-Témiscamingue (FME) and Distorsion Psych Fest.

The band is currently recording their second LP (Release: Spring 2019, Mothland Records).
