Asbestos Popcorn was formed by school friends Glen Eagle (guitar) and Steven Joshua (vocals) in Glens bedroom in Pensby, Wirral way back in 1993.

Back then the band was originally called Junker.

After various members had come and gone, fellow school friends Richard Atherton (bass) and Simon Cooke (drums) were recruited late '94 and the band started playing regular gigs at The Jam in West Kirby Youth Club and The Full Moon Club in Birkenhead Park. Rehearsing religiously every Saturday morning at Pensby Boys School, a large catalogue of original grunge/punk tracks was built up and the band started looking for better gigs.

In 1995 the Popcorn played at the Lomax in Liverpool, amongst other venues, and built up a small fan base, but in July '96 Simon left the band and Tim Onion was recruited, playing his first gig a few days later at Telford's Warehouse in Chester. A demo was recorded on 29/30 December '96 and further gigs followed including another performance at the Lomax in 1997, but later that year the band were forced to separate because of uni/work commitments...

for 10 years!

But then in September 2007 the original line-up of the band decided to get together for a jam and Asbestos Popcorn was reborn. They started to play new material, as well as some old favourites, and after a few rehearsals landed a gig at Bar One in Hoylake. Unfortunately soon after this gig, Simon had to leave the band (again) and friend Ray Speedway came in on drums.

The band rehearsed some more and, writing new material every practice, started playing regularly at Zanzibar in Liverpool. More gigs followed at Korova, Bad Format and Head of Steam in Liverpool, Revolver in Birkenhead, the Oxjam Music Festival in Hoylake four years running and Fort Perch Rocks Music Festival in New Brighton for the last three years.

Asbestos Popcorn play something that might be described as grunge power durge pop punk, or steg rock as they like to label themselves. They're loud and they want to crack your skull.
