In french ‘aquaserge’ is a play on words meaning both ‘aquatic Serge’ and ‘what am I for’ ?

The group was formed in 2005 around musicians who want to explore certain unknown, or little known pockets of rock. A mixture of deep influences was thus established ; navigating knowingly between kraut giants such as Neu ! and Faust, anglo-saxon pop, Soft Machine, Zappa…

Adepts of the first draft and experimentations, they push the already elastic boundaries of the classic pop/rock formation (guitar, bass, keyboards, drums) just that little bit further each time. Aquaserge sings an epic tale. A strange, underwater mythology is woven from one opus to the next — that of the charming Serge, survivor and savant, who wanders in the abyss aboard his cigar-shaped submarine.

The group gave its first gigs in June 2008, notably as openers for Bertrand Burgalat and quickly become backing band for the latter’s own label Tricatel and thus for American singer April March. Members of the band also regularly surge from their marine habitat to collaborate with Makoto Kawabata and Acid Mothers Temple, Kinski, Monade, Moodoïd,… and to play on stage with Laetitia Sadier, Stereolab, April March, Tahiti80, Tame Impala, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Damo Suzuki (Can)…

They played at the Klangbad Festival (Faust Studio), and at the Siestes Électroniques in Toulouse with Kawabata Makoto and Keiji Haino. They appeared alongside the likes of Gong and Art Bears for the third edition of Rock in Opposition, as well as several US and European tours.

US label Manimal Vinyl Records released their 1st maxi 12″ ‘Tahiti Coco‘ in 2008 and the 2nd LP ‘Ce très cher serge, spécial origines‘ in 2010, promoted by an intense US tour (13 000 km / 7 000 miles in 20 days !).

Their last EP ‘Tout arrive‘ was released by Chambre404/Arista/Sony/Arista in March 2014 and a new LP ‘à l’amitié‘ was out in May 2014. The band started started touring with a show at the festival la Route du Rock in Saint-Malo, followed by at least 30 French concerts.
