AFRIKELEKTRO is an eclectic trio of musicians blending Electro-Pop with traditional African sounds, rhythms and melodies.

The group was founded in Montréal by Congolese drummer, percussionist, writer and singer Lionel Kizaba, who invited the perfectly matched composing and performing talents of Austrian-born, former Liverpool resident Vergil Sharkya' (synth-bass, synthesizers, vocoder) and Montréal native Chris Hamel Burrage (guitars, bass, backing vocals) to join forces in his project. Afrikelektro have been developing their unique blend of music in this formation since 2012. The group frequently collaborate with dancers Axelle Munezero and Marie-Reine Kabasha and VJ Mabika-Ki L'Ordre du Leopard, who contribute to a vibrant high-energy live experience. Afrikelektro invite their audience to become immersed in a futuristic Afro-Electro-Pop universe.

Afrikelektro have performed shows in clubs and theatres in Montréal, Balattou, Alizé, Inspecteur Épingle, l'Astral, Rialto, la Tulipe, at Montréal's Festival Nuits d'Afrique, Festival Mondo Karnaval in Québec City, Festival Rythmes d'Afrique in Sherbrooke, on Quebec's premier music channel Musique Plus, on Concordia University TV channel CUTV, and their music has been performed and broadcast on radio stations Radio Canada, CiBL, CKUT, etc. The band has recorded a collection of songs during 2014, and launched their eponymous EP in February 2015.

Afrikelektro's original style has influences from Fela Kuti to Daft Punk, to which Lionel Kizaba puts charmed magic words in Lingala, English, and French, resulting in a high-energy mix of luscious grooves, futuristic electronic soundworlds, funk, rock, and free-flowing melodies inspired by the music and traditions of central Africa.
